Mendeley is a reference-management platform from Elsevier designed to help researchers collect, organize, read, annotate, share, and cite academic literature. Its Mendeley Reference Manager provides a searchable library where users can import papers, organize them with collections and tags, annotate PDFs, and synchronize their research across devices. It also integrates with Mendeley Cite, a Microsoft Word add-in that lets users insert citations and automatically generate bibliographies in styles such as APA, MLA, Chicago, and IEEE.
More recently, Mendeley has incorporated AI-assisted research features. Its Reading Assistant can answer questions and summarize individual papers, while Ask My Library can search across a user's personal Mendeley collection and Compare Experiments can compare methods, results, and conclusions across selected papers. Importantly, Mendeley states that AI-generated responses should be treated as research aids rather than authoritative sources: researchers should verify the claims against the original papers and cite the original publications, not the AI-generated responses,
