Open Data Structures [Pat Morin]
#1
Open Data Structures by Pat Morin is a free, open-access textbook that provides a rigorous introduction to data structures and algorithms. It focuses on both how structures are implemented and how efficiently they operate, introducing concepts such as interfaces, correctness, running time, space complexity, and asymptotic analysis. The material includes array-based and linked lists, queues, deques, skiplists, hash tables, binary search trees, heaps, sorting algorithms, graphs, integer-search structures, and B-trees.

A major strength of the project is its combination of mathematical analysis with practical source code. Rather than simply describing data structures, Morin explains why particular implementations work and analyzes their performance, making the book useful for both university students and independent learners. The project was also designed around the principles of open-source software, with the goal of keeping a high-quality introductory data-structures textbook freely available and adaptable.
