Geometry Snacks [Southall]
#1
Geometry Snacks is a compact mathematical puzzle book from Tarquin, created by Ed Southall and Vincent Pantaloni. It presents a collection of geometric diagrams and deceptively simple questions designed to make readers investigate relationships involving angles, areas, dimensions, and fractions.

The book is divided into five sections: shaded fractions, missing angles, areas, proofs, and Sangaku—traditional Japanese geometric puzzles involving figures such as circles. It is intended for geometry enthusiasts of different ages and includes complete answers.

A central feature of the book is that many problems have several possible solution methods. Rather than simply finding an answer, readers are encouraged to explore different ways of reasoning, revealing additional relationships and insights after the original problem has been solved.

Tarquin also presents it as a useful classroom resource: the simple-looking diagrams can conceal challenging ideas and encourage students to discuss strategies, compare methods, and develop creative approaches to problems. The book is a small 80-page format, making the problems suitable as short, “bite-sized” geometry challenges.
