The Social Network (2010) - mklabgr - 09-28-2026

The Social Network is a 2010 biographical drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires. The film dramatizes the founding of Facebook while Mark Zuckerberg is a student at Harvard. It follows Zuckerberg’s creation of Facemash and then TheFacebook, his partnership with Eduardo Saverin, and his encounters with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra, who claim that Zuckerberg used ideas connected to their proposed social network. Sean Parker later becomes an influential figure in Facebook’s development, encouraging its expansion and relocation to California.

The story is structured around legal depositions and competing versions of events, focusing less on the technology itself than on friendship, ambition, loyalty, jealousy, power and betrayal. Conflict intensifies when Saverin’s ownership is dramatically diluted and he is removed from the company, while the Winklevoss brothers pursue legal action.

The film ends with the disputes being settled out of court and Zuckerberg becoming the world’s youngest billionaire. Although widely praised for its screenplay, acting, direction, editing and music, the film’s historical accuracy is contested, and it should be understood as a dramatization rather than a definitive factual account of Facebook’s creation.
